ConsTest 2025: A Modern Brass Band Competition in Birmingham

ConsTest is an innovative, open own-choice brass band competition held at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, offering a fresh perspective on traditional brass banding. Taking place in the state-of-the-art Bradshaw Hall, ConsTest provides bands the chance to compete for prestigious prizes from Denis Wick, Geneva, Mercer & Barker, and Alliance. Bands also have the unique opportunity to collaborate with renowned musicians, such as Richard Marshall.

Launched in 2023 with adjudicators Ian Porthouse and Alan Morrison, ConsTest continues to lead the way in tackling modern challenges in brass banding, including addressing the player shortage with an innovative registry system. Above all, it promises a full day of musical indulgence for bands and audiences alike, making it a must-attend event in the brass band calendar.

A Vibrant Brass Band Scene in Birmingham

Birmingham has become a hub for brass banding excellence. In 2022, the British Open returned to Symphony Hall, and the European Brass Band Competition also captivated audiences at the same venue earlier that year. ConsTest takes inspiration from these landmark events, striving to create an inclusive, relaxed, and exciting atmosphere for brass bands of all levels. Every participating band is valued, both on stage and off, ensuring a truly memorable experience.
